The aim of this Diploma qualification is to provide the local community with graduates who are able to apply evidence-based knowledge, ability and skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate remedial massage therapy interventions to address musculoskeletal dysfunction and other common health conditions for a broad range of clients in a safe healthcare context.
It follows a full-time study 1-year pathway comprising a total of 120 credits at Level 6 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
The programme is delivered using a Hybrid model (a mix of face to face classes, on line and block courses on campus) to students over a period of 36 weeks. Students outside of Auckland can join classes via zoom link.
Graduates will obtain the latest New Zealand registered qualification (with international recognition with NZQA partner countries) in the complementary medicine industry sector and open the door to a wide range of jobs.
Graduates who successfully complete this Diploma Qualification are qualified to work as Remedial Massage Therapists in a broad range of wellness and relaxation massage settings including home-based massage therapy, mobile clinics, community-based massage therapy clinics, multi-disciplinary clinics and sports settings (non-injury work) and stress management education.

The New Zealand Diploma in Remedial Massage (Level 6) contains work-integrated learning components to support the clinical components delivered in the programme. There are two courses (SCP and ICP) which require students to undertake a clinical practicum. These are completed under supervision at the Auckland campus, for both on-campus and on-line learners in the purpose-built on-campus student massage clinic.
Student therapists will be required to develop remedial massage and clinic management skills as part of the clinical practicum course requirements. College marketing, and students obtaining their own individual clients, assists with reinforcing and consolidating the new knowledge gained. Students may be able to arrange a integrated clinical work placement in an approved local clinic on a case-by-case basis only and this is to be pre-determined as part of the enrolment process.
Additionally on-line learners are required to attend required block course delivery for all clinical course components for teaching, learning and assessment of massage techniques, these will also take place at the Auckland campus of the College in Greenlane.
In total students enrolled in the online/blended mode of delivery will be expected to travel to Auckland to attend the 5 on-campus block courses. We recommend that you discuss your learning options and study and work commitments with the College before making a commitment to enrol.
100% attendance is required for all clinical practice components.
