NZCCM Background

Established in 2002, the New Zealand College of Chinese Medicine (NZCCM) is a Category 2 Private Tertiary Education Provider accredited and approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Our External Evaluation Report has achieved a ‘Confident’ rating in both Educational Performance and Self-Assessment. Additionally, we are a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.

NZQA has confirmed that the New Zealand College of Chinese Medicine is now listed on the JSJ website maintained by the Chinese Ministry of Education. This recognition underscores our commitment to providing high-quality education in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). NZCCM specializes in TCM and offers a variety of educational programs, including bachelor’s degree majors in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, a Master of Chinese Medicine, and a Graduate Certificate in Chinese Medicine (Tuina Massage). All our TCM programs are accredited by the Chinese Medicine Council of New Zealand under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance (HPCA) Act 2003. In addition to our TCM offerings, NZCCM provides the NZ Diploma in Remedial Massage (L6) and NZ Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage (L5). We also offer English programs, NZCEL Level 4 and Level 5 which are designed to help students enhance their English language skills. For two decades, the college has been at the forefront of education delivery, ensuring practice-based approaches to teaching and learning. We leverage the latest global trends, including blended learning methodologies for several of our programs. Our focus remains on integrating new discoveries and advanced techniques and theories in Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and massage therapies, including both Chinese Tuina and Western-based wellness and relaxation methods. To promote cultural competency, our staff and students actively engage with Māori communities, fostering a collegial atmosphere and a vibrant research culture that enhances the overall educational experience for our students.

NZCCM Teaching Clinic

Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, West Massage, East Massage(Tuina)

NZCCM provides a range of approved qualifications including certificates, diplomas and Bachelor degrees in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture/Chinese Medicine/Tuina and Massage) for domestic and international students. We also offer the New Zealand Certificate in English Language.

Post Graduate Qualifications

The aim of this programme is to produce graduates with knowledge and advanced practical experience that enables them to practice in Chinese Medicine. Students will select courses in the area of Chinese herbal medicine or acupuncture in consultation with NZCCM. The content, assessment and practice components of courses will be aligned with the student’s chosen practice area (Chinese herbal medicine or acupuncture).

Bachelor of Health Science

A major advantage of the BHSc programme is that students are qualified to practice acupuncture when they complete the first three years study. They can continue to study one more year to complete the four-year of BHSc in Chinese Medicine and are eligible for the full scope of TCM practice ie inclusive of acupuncture, acupressure and herbal practice.

Diploma

The College has expanded its health and wellbeing education qualifications, offering the NZQA Version2, NZ Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage Level 5 and the NZ Diploma in Remedial Massage Level 6. These programmes are led by expert practitioner-educators. Tutors and students favour the hybrid learning style, blending online and in-person classes for enhanced flexibility. Intensive practical block courses aid in the effective development of clinical skills. Students positively review college facilities, including a dedicated massage clinic, teaching standards, communication, and academic assistance.

English Language

English language programmes are available to enable students wishing to improve their English language skills and qualifications to pathway to degree and diploma study.

Target Learner

Acupuncture in New Zealand has been recently accepted as a respected and widely used healing modality. Our Programmes not only give students an in-depth knowledge of the vast and fascinating field of Chinese Medicine but also ensure that student’s practising skills are of the highest professional standards. At NZCCM, we endeavour to combine ancient fundamentals and traditional practices with recent refinements in authentic Chinese Medicine and adapt these to Western Medical Models using modern teaching methodologies.

Our two-semester system and cross-credit recognition allows students to fast-track their studies and get a head start on their careers. Students who successfully complete 3 years out of our 4 years Bachelor of Health Science Degree in Chinese Medicine are conferred with the Bachelor of Health Science Degree in Acupuncture and are eligible to become Accident Compensation Corporation’s (ACC) registered acupuncturists.

Students at NZCCM are taught by passionate and committed faculty – staff who have been trained over a number of years at top Chinese Universities, are approachable and have the required knowledge, expertise and experience in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). A friendly, nurturing environment on campus and within classrooms supports our rigorous and demanding academic programmes and practical clinic sessions.

Our students feel comfortable and confident when they study with us because we ensure they are well-equipped to succeed with unique, real world TCM knowledge and skills and high competency in clinical practice once they complete their qualification.
